If you’re a guitarist who’s just getting started with GarageBand and are dying to jump in a start recording, you may be overwhelmed with the different gear options available to you.
While many would argue that the only way to accurately capture an electric guitar performance is by mic’ing up your amplifier and hitting record, in my latest video I share 3 ways that you can directly input your guitar into your Mac so that you can record it in GarageBand.
The Alchemy synth is available on iPhone 6 or later, iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation), iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4. Multitrack recording requires a compatible third‑party audio interface. Sharing to Facebook and YouTube requires iMovie. Requires an Apple Music Connect account. GarageBand is available on the App Store. IOS 11 required. Recording a Smart Instrument, Guitar Amp or Audio Recorder. To record an instrument part in Garageband for iPad follow these easy steps: Step 1. First of all, make sure you are in Instrument view and not in Track view, then choose and tap the instrument you want to record. The Playhead can then be used to mark the starting point of recording. You can rewind to move it to start or tap on the ruler to choose a specific bar/beat. In general, a newer iPad should be able to handle seven to eight hours of recording. If it’s crucial for you to charge your iPad while recording, you need to use a Made For iPad (MFi) interface.

Directly inputting (or ‘DI-ing’) your instrument in this way gives you more control over how your recording sounds if you choose to use Garageband’s built in amp designer and/or Audio Unit plug ins.

CrossOver Mac will create bottles, which are essentially Windows environments, for the programs you install. These include their own C drive, subdirectories and registry. Since CrossOver Mac is not truly a virtual environment, it can launch applications much faster. The downside to this is that you never really feel like you are using Windows.
